Air Serbia, the national carrier of Serbia which is already operating on one route from Belgrade to the US and will launch Chicago service next year, is seeking additional routes to the United States.
“We’re looking at other destinations in the US. But again, our main strategy is to target cities that have year-round potential. We do not want to increase seasonality, which is already high in our region. That's one of the reasons we favour Chicago over Toronto, for example, because the Canadian city is not only extremely seasonal, but also extremely unidirectional. At the beginning of the season the flights are full in one direction, and at the end of the season in the other direction." - The CEO of the Airline, Jiri Marek said.
The busiest unserved United States routes from Belgrade, excluding Chicago, are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Denver, Phoenix, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, Washington, Tampa, Houston, and Orlando.
Air Serbia is also seeking codeshare agreements with some US carriers. The airline previously attempted to make a codeshare agreement with American Airlines but the plan was unsuccessful.
“We currently have interline agreements that work quite well. But we are working on reaching the next level, which is codeshare cooperation with one of the major airlines in the United States. We are in the final stages of negotiations and believe we can announce this before the end of the year.” - Marek said.
The Serbian carrier will operate three times a week to New York JFK Airport this winter, which is an increase if compared to their previous winter schedule on this route when two weekly rotations were available. The flights will further be increased on four and five times per week during the New Year holidays i.e. from mid December until early January 2023. Daily rotations are planned to New York next summer season in addition to the two weekly flights to Chicago. Second Airbus A330-200 will also be delivered.
