Air Serbia is close to register profitability in 2022, following to years of losses because of the covid-19 pandemic. “We are a smaller regional airline and want to grow with the market in a profitable and sustainable way. In 2021 we significantly improved our operational performance and even reduced our loss. This year we are aiming to be profitable and we will continue to be on that path in the future as well. We want it to stay like that. Air Serbia will continue to be the leading regional carrier in Balkan region and we would like to keep our market share between 50 to 55 percent in Belgrade.” - The CEO of Air Serbia, Jiri Marek said.
The Serbian national carrier made a loss of over 90 million euros in the past two years, 2021 and 2020 due to the pandemic. Prior to that, between 2014 and 2020, it was turning a profit every year, though its operational result would have been a loss had it not been for government subsidies that Serbia continues to inject into its flag carrier.
The airline is aiming to grow by 10% to 15% every year from now on, as the CEO said: “In 2022 we will be slightly below the numbers from 2019, likely ending up at 91% of pre-pandemic levels. Of course, only if nothing negative happens. In 2023 Air Serbia will definitely surpass 2019 levels and from then on, we aim to grow between 10% and 15% every year”.
