According to the aviation portal "Ex-Yu Aviation", Air Serbia is planning to lease second Airbus A330-200 aircraft this October and to launch two new long-haul routes in the same month and in 2023. The CEO of the airline, Jiri Marek has told the TangoSix portal that Air Serbia will launch services to Chicago in USA in the spring of 2023 and will increase the operations to their first long-haul route launched in 2016 i.e. New York JFK on daily. Over 32 000 passengers flew between Chicago and Belgrade indirectly in 2019, before the pandemic.
Air Serbia will also launch its first route to China this October. At the ceremony for celebrating the launch of the flights from Beijing to Belgrade with Hainan Airlines yesterday, the CEO of Air Serbia and the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said "Air Serbia will fly to Tianjin, which is around an hour or less from Beijing, in north-eastern China. This is a good outcome, as we will attract a lot more tourists and businesspeople but also bring China closer to Serbia, as i am certain a greater number of Serbian tourists, businesses and officials will use this service".
The second Airbus A330-200 aircraft is also going to feature special livery. "The aircraft will be decorated with the image of a famous person who is celebrated in Serbia and by the Serbian people" - Jiri Marek, the CEO of Air Serbia has said. The aircraft will be named after the Serbian physicist and physical chemist Mihajlo Pupin. A special livery, featuring an image of Mihajlo Pupin will be painted on the jet as well.
