Croatia Airlines reported a net loss of 22.2 million euros for the first nine months of 2021 which is 31% less loss if compared to the same period in 2020. It comes after the significantly reduced demand caused by the travel restrictions and the pandemic during the January - September period. The airline was rapidly changing the schedule on its routes in order to adjust to the demand this summer. Some routes were temporarily suspended and resumed as well.
"Croatia Airlines' operations in the first nine months of this year were significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to strongly affect all aspects of economic and social activities in the Republic of Croatia and the world and, as expected, causes a decline in demand for air transport services." - the airline noted.
The airline operated a total of 11.728 flights during these nine months, representing an increase by over 11% if compared to the same period in 2020. Dash 8-Q400 turboprop aircrafts were deployed on most of the flights during this period. The use of their fleet is increased by 20% if compared to the last year. Croatia Airlines also used its two Airbus A320 aircrafts during this period which is a big increase in the capacity if we compare to last year when both A320s were grounded. The airline was also operating charter flights from Ljubljana to the well known summer destinations in Greece, Spain and Egypt.
556.499 passengers were handled in the January - September period which is a decrease by 4% if compared to the same nine months in 2020. 168.518 passengers flew on domestic flights during the period, which is increase by 18% if compared to 2020. 14.739 passengers flew on charter flights which is only 3% of the total numbers. The remaining 373.242 flew on the international routes of Croatia Airlines. The flights were around 50% full during these nine months which is the same as last year.
