Croatia Airlines has confirmed that it is going to order six Airbus A220 aircrafts for its fleet renewal plans which will be completed by 2026.
The airline will purchase six brand new Airbus A220 jets after it canceled the Airbus A320neo order which was placed in 2015. Over the past months, the carrier was in talks with both Airbus and Embraer over purchasing the A220 or the Embraer E190-E2 type in order to replace its whole fleet.
Croatia Airlines will replace the whole fleet in the upcoming four years according to their post-covid strategy.
Currently, the airline operates with a fleet of six Dash 8-Q400 turboprop aircrafts, as well as five Airbus A319s and a single A320. It is official that this fleet will be replaced with six Airbus A220-100 and A220-300 aircrafts with seat capacity between 147 and 148 seats.
Airbus was in Zagreb in September 2021 to pitch the A220 to Croatia Airlines. Then, Embraer came to Zagreb in October 2021 to showcase the E195-E2 to the airline.
"In the year of 2026, all existing aircraft will be replaced by a new unified "single type" fleet. Aircrafts of the new technology Airbus A220 will provide better response to the specific passenger needs and a more efficient sustainable business model in the future" - Croatia Airlines said.
