The low cost carrier easyJet will launch its first route to Macedonia this winter season by announcing the flights from Geneva this morning. The carrier will start the operations to the Macedonian Capital on November 1 this year. The flights will operate twice a week, every Monday and Friday. Later, or on December 2, they will be increased on three times a week and will operate every Monday, Thursday and Friday. Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft with capacity of 156 and 186 seats is deployed on this route.
easyJet does not have any direct competition on this route as it is the only airline to operate between these cities. Skopje Airport previously did not have any direct flights to Switzerland operated by low cost airlines. Wizz Air operates on the route Skopje - Basel which is considered as France. Geneva will be the third city in Switzerland to be connected with Skopje Airport, with Zurich and Basel in the first place.
The route Skopje - Geneva has been in operation since the 1993 when Avioimpex Airlines operated three to four times a week on this route. The route was then terminated in 2002 due to the collapse of this Macedonian private airline.
“easyJet is focused on its successful strategy to expand across Europe and operates in the best interests of the company and its customers ensuring the attractiveness of its network. This means the airline concentrates its efforts on maintaining and developing routes which prove popular with passengers. We consider competition only in regards of tactic opportunities that can be complementary to our strategy” - the airline said.
