easyJet touched down in Skopje for the first time a few hours ago. The low cost airline easyJet Switzerland operated its first flight on the new route Geneva - Skopje today with Airbus A320 aircraft. This is easyJet's first time entering the Macedonian market. It is the third low cost airline to operate flights to or from Skopje, with Wizz Air and Pegasus Airlines in the first place.
easyJet will operate twice a week from Geneva to Skopje in November. The flights will be operated every Monday and Friday by their subsidiary easyJet Switzerland. Airbus A319 aircraft with 156 seats is deployed on this route.
Geneva will now be the third city in Switzerland which will have direct connectivity by air with Skopje International Airport. The first Swiss city is Zurich operated by Chair Air on behalf of Air Pristina and Edelweiss Air. The second is Basel operated by Wizz Air.
easyJet will increase the flights between Geneva and Skopje during the New Year and Christmas holidays. The airline will add Thursday rotation on this route for the period 16 December 2021 - 6 January 2022. The flights will operate three times a week again as of 10 February 2022 till the end of the winter season. Summer seasonal flights are further expected to be scheduled for this route.
easyJet will be the only airline to operate on this route and does not have any competitor.
“As TAV we are truly happy to witness EasyJet’s entrance on the Macedonian market, with today’s launch of the new route from Geneva, Switzerland to Skopje, North Macedonia. The Macedonian capital will be connected to the Swiss city three times per week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, as of today, November 1st, during the whole winter season. The low cost airline will fly to Skopje International Airport for the first time, and they’ve decided to start now, despite the ongoing global aviation crisis caused by Covid-19 and the fact that many countries still have air travel restrictions. Geneva will be the third destination in Switzerland with an air connection to Skopje International Airport, after Zurich and Basel. We believe that this route has a great potential and we are eager to see its development in the upcoming period”, stated Metin Batak, TAV Macedonia General Manager.
