GULLIVAIR to connect Skopje and Sofia with New York and Toronto!


A small Bulgarian airline named GULLIVAIR plans to introduce flights and to connect the Bulgarian and Macedonian capital in the upcoming period. The airline plans to connect Sofia with some other destinations in the Balkan as well.


GULLIVAIR is a small carrier in Bulgaria which operates with a fleet of two ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft and three Airbus A330-200s which are currently used for charter flights to the popular summer destinations in Asia and America. The airline is operating only one domestic route currently, a three weekly rotations from Sofia to Burgas with their ATR72 turboprop aircraft. The airline also planned to introduce flights to Dubrovnik and Tirana last year. The flights from Sofia to Tirana were in operation for short period during the New Year holidays as well.


GULLIVAIR plans to launch a few destinations in the region, among which is Skopje and to connect them with New York and Toronto via Sofia. The tickets for the route Sofia - Skopje will be around 50 euros as the carrier said.


As early as March last year, the company received official permission from the US Department of Transportation to operate charter and scheduled flights between the EU and the US. In March or April this year, according to the company, it will start flying a direct route from Sofia to New York. GULLIVAIR is also authorized to fly to Toronto International Airport in Canada.


The transatlantic flights will be performed by three Airbus A330-200 aircraft that will fly to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York initially twice a week, every Wednesday and Friday. For short flights to be economically viable, they will be performed by small aircraft type ATR72-600, and the price of the short flights will be up to 50 euros, the carrier said.


Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov also spoke about the opening of the Skopje-Sofia route during his visit to North Macedonia on Tuesday. He said that he supports the talks between the Ministers of Transport and Communications of the two countries, Blagoj Bochvarski and Nikolay Sabev, at which it was agreed in the period until the next meeting of the governments of Macedonia and Bulgaria, at the end of this month, to agree on details about the introduction of this route.
