ITA Airways launched direct flights between Rome and Sofia. The airline touched down in the capital of Bulgaria on Wednesday, 5th October with 71 passengers on board the Airbus A319 aircraft where they were greeted with the traditional water salute.
The event was attended by Jesús Caballero, Executive Director of SOF Connect AD, a N. Pr. Giuseppe Zara, Italy's ambassador to Bulgaria, and Carla Catuonho, the airline's regional manager for Europe, arrived on the flight from Rome this afternoon.
"I am happy to mark the flights of ITA Airways at Sofia Airport. I remember the beginning in 1994, and now the new line provides additional opportunities for travelers to Rome – everyone's favorite destination. The flights will contribute to the development of tourist and business ties between the two countries." - said Giuseppe Zara, Ambassador of Italy to Bulgaria.

ITA Airways enriches the flight connectivity of the Sofia airport, and the convenient departure and landing times meet the needs of travelers. We are actively working to achieve one million more seats in the coming months, which will bring direct benefits to the whole of Bulgaria", said the airport's Executive Director Jesús Caballero.
The new link will run with the Airbus A319, with three weekly frequencies every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 2 October 2022, with take-off from Rome Fiumicino Airport at 09:50 and arrival at international airport Sofia at 12:40 p.m. local time. The flight from Sofia is at 13:30 and lands in Rome Fiumicino at 14:25, according to Sofia Airport.
With its new direct flight, ITA Airways is expanding into Eastern Europe. Italy is one of the strongest partners of Bulgaria, and the new direct line will improve the economic, trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
