Qatar Airways and Fly Dubai have extended the suspension of flights to the Capital of North Macedonia until further notice due to low demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This comes after several countries in Asia and Australia have continued with the highly restrictive measures in order to stop the spread of the virus that significantly affect the demand for flights from Doha and Dubai to Skopje. Over 40% of the passengers who used these two Gulf carriers traveled to Australia which still remains with high restrictive measures and travel bans in many countries.
Both airlines have suspended the flights to Skopje since the pandemic began. Qatar Airways planned to return to Skopje in November last year, later the flights were postponed to March this year, before being further postponed to March 28, 2022.
Fly Dubai also planned to resume flights on the Dubai-Skopje route in October 2020, but later further postponed them until October 31 this year. Until recently, the airline planned to start flights to Skopje that were to operate twice a week, every Monday and Thursday with a Boeing B737-800 aircraft.
However, the both carriers have decided not to resume the flights to Skopje until restrictive measures in Asia and Australia are eased. Due to this decision, Qatar Airways and Fly Dubai have removed the tickets to Skopje from sale until the next announcement. This decision can be changed quickly depending on the decisions of the countries in Asia and Australia.
Qatar Airways operated four times a week on the Doha - Skopje route during the summer season, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with an Airbus A320 aircraft. As well as three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the winter season. The route was launched in mid July, 2017.
