The Irish low-cost carrier has officially opened its base in the capital of Croatia this morning by deploying the first Airbus A320 aircraft operated by Lauda - one of Ryanair's subsidiaries. The carrier will start the flights to three routes from its base in Zagreb today: Gothenburg which departed at 07:00 AM, Rome Champino which departed this afternoon, and London Stansted which will depart around 04:00 PM. Among these three, Ryanair already operates on the route Brussels Charleroi - Zagreb with two weekly rotations on Wednesday and Sunday, as well as Milan Bergamo - Zagreb with four weekly rotations on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. These two routes are currently operating from Milan and Brussels base. They are planned to operate from Zagreb base in September when the second Airbus A320 aircraft will be deployed.
Ryanair is holding a press conference currently in Zagreb to officially announce the opening of the new base and the launch of the nine new routes.
Among the opening of the base and the start of three routes, Ryanair has announced flights from Zagreb to Basel, Eindhoven, Manchester, Dublin, Malaga, Naples, Malta, Thessaloniki, and Paphos.
Zagreb - Paphos, Cyprus will start on December 3 and will operate on Mondays and Fridays;
Zagreb - Thessaloniki, Greece will start on December 2 and will operate on Thursdays and Sundays;
Zagreb - Dublin, Ireland will start on December 2 and will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays;
Zagreb - Naples, Italy will start on December 17 and will operate on Mondays and Fridays;
Zagreb - Malta will start on December 4 and will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays;
Zagreb - Eindhoven, Netherlands will start on December 3 and will operate on Mondays and Fridays;
Zagreb - Malaga, Spain will start on December 1 and will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays;
Zagreb - Basel, Switzerland will start on December 3 and will operate on Mondays and Fridays;
Zagreb - Manchester, United Kingdom will start on December 2 and will operate on Thursdays and Sundays.
The start of these nine new routes will be between 1 - 17 of December this year.
All of them will operate twice a week except Dublin which will operate three times a week. Third Airbus A320 aircraft will be deployed for these new routes.
Ryanair has previously said that it is planning around 30 to 40 routes from Zagreb base until next summer, “We will grow exponentially in the years to come. We plan to operate thirty to forty routes and handle two to three million passengers. This will transform Zagreb, transform tourism, accommodation, hotels, taxi operators … Basically everything. We will become the largest airline in Zagreb and Croatia within a very short period of time”.
Zagreb - Sofia is Ryanair's next route to begin operations on August 3rd.
