Skopje International Airport handled 169 034 passengers in May this year representing a decrease by only 13% if compared to the same month before the pandemic i.e. in 2019 when 194 449 passengers were welcomed. The airport welcomed only 849 passengers in May 2020 as a result of the travel restrictions caused by the ongoing pandemic. In May last year, Skopje Airport welcomed some 72 178 passengers which is an increase by 134,2% if compared to the numbers of the same month this year.
The number of the aircraft movements in May 2022 is 1 532, down by only 9,5% if compared to May 2019 when the number was 1 696. Only 172 aircraft operations were handled at the airport in May 2020 and 1 074 in May last year which is an increase by 43% if compared to the numbers of the same month this year.
Most of the flights at Skopje Airport in May 2022 were operated by Wizz Air to 25 destinations, followed by Turkish Airlines and Austrian Airlines with double daily service from Istanbul and Vienna, Pegasus Airlines and Chair Airlines with eight weekly flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport and Zurich. At that time, LOT Polish Airlines and easyJet have had suspended their operations to Skopje as a result of a runway reconstruction at the airport. Five routes were suspended by Wizz Air as well.
