Skopje International Airport is ready to start the reconstruction of its single runway on 28 March, the upcoming Monday. The reconstruction process will last 50 days i.e. until 16 May. During these 50 days, the airport will be closed for all flights between 09:00 and 17:00 o'clock. However, during this time the terminal building will remain open 24/7.
"Rehabilitation of the runway means that we will practically renovate the upper layer of the asphalt of the runway and, as a result, during this period, between 9:00h and 17:00h, from 28 March until 16 May, 2022, there will be construction works on the runway. Each day, in the noted hours and time period, we will rehabilitate one part of the total length of the runway, in order for the airport to remain operational, i.e. so we can normally handle flights during the remainder of the day, from 17:00 until 9:00h. I would like to emphasize the following - Skopje Airport will not be closed during the rehabilitation of the runway. The airport will be open for passengers 24/7, as it is always. As the whole time during the covid pandemic, we advise passengers to arrive at the airport 3-4 hours prior the scheduled departure of their flights, prepared with the required covid related travel documentation, in consultation with their airline and the Embassy of the foreign country they are about to visit" says TAV Macedonia General Manager - Metin Batak.
The airlines which currently operate scheduled flights to and from Skopje International Airport between 09:00 and 17:00 o'clock have already made changes in their schedule for the period 30 March - 16 of May. LOT Polish Airlines and easyJet decided that they will not operate to and from Skopje during this period, with their flights to be resumed on 17 May and on 1 June. Wizz Air has also delayed some of the routes from Skopje for late May as it will be unable to operate on 15 routes per day with 5 aircrafts from Skopje during the reconstruction period.
The last reconstruction work of the runway at Skopje Airport took place in 1996 in which the airport was closed for 60 days and all flights were shifted to Ohrid.
