TAV Airports have announced runway reconstruction for Skopje Airport in 2022. The reconstruction of the runway at Skopje International Airport has been announced earlier this month and it is planned to be realised until mid May next year. The renovating process will start on 28 March and will least 50 days, until 16 of May 2022. For this purpose, the Airport of Skopje will be opened for flights from 17:30 until 09:00 local time. the reconstruction process will take place 8 and a half hours a day and will be completed in 50 days as stated.
This will effect the morning and especially the afternoon flights of Wizz Air which has a base with five Airbus aircrafts at Skopje and plans to operate 12 to 14 flights a day as of late March 2022. The airline may add some more aircrafts at Skopje base which will help them to operate most of the flights after 17:30 and after mid-night instead of early morning. This strategy is possible as they do operate flights during the evening hours from some of their bases, especially Kutaisi, Georgia. However, there are still no change in the schedule of Wizz Air for Skopje for this period.
Regarding the other flights that are operated at Skopje Airport during these 8 and a half hours, airlines such as Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Air Serbia, LOT Polish Airlines, easyJet and some others may request new slot for Skopje flights after 17:30 or before 09am. Pristina and Ohrid Airport still remain their alternativity for this period. There are still no changes in the schedule of any airline which operates to Skopje International Airport.
“As part of the investment plan for the expansion and renovation of Macedonian airports, next year, starting from March 28, 2022 until May 16, 2022, over a time period of fifty days, TAV Macedonia plans to rehabilitate the runway at Skopje Airport. For this purpose, during this time, air traffic will take place from 17:30 in the afternoon until 9:00 in the morning” - the Airport of Skopje noted.
