Skopje International Airport welcomed 266 617 passengers in August, representing a new record of passenger numbers and busiest August ever as there is an increase of 1,1% if compared to the pre-pandemic levels in the same month in 2019 when 263 652 passengers were handled. Skopje Airport is one of the few in the Balkan to return to and overtake the pre-pandemic levels.
There is an increase of 28,5% if compared to August 2021 when 207 659 passengers were welcomed and an increase of nearly 300% if compared to the 8th month of 2020 when only 67 007 travelers were handled.
There were 1 877 aircraft movements at Skopje International in August, still representing a decrease by 6,5% if compared to August 2019 when the number was 2 009.
During the January - August period, Skopje International Airport welcomed a total of 1 387 362 passengers, down by only 11,15% if compared to the same period in 2019 when the airport welcomed 1 562 041 traveler.
Most of the passengers at Skopje Airport in August traveled with Wizz Air to 30 destinations across Europe. The carrier operated most or 10 weekly flights to Basel, five weekly flights to Dortmund, Memmingen and Malmo, four weekly to Gothenburg, London Luton and Cologne, three weekly to Eindhoven, Brussels Charleroi, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Berlin, Friedrichshafen and Frankfurt Hahn and two weekly to Turku, Oslo Torp, Stockholm Skavsta, Vaxjo, Billund, Bremen, Nuremberg, Paris Beauvais, Bratislava, Treviso, Milan Malpensa, Bologna, Turin, Rome Fiumicino and Malta. Five aircrafts were deployed, three of which were Airbus A321 with 230 seats and two Airbus A320 with 180 seats capacity.
The busiest route was Skopje - Antalya with 15 weekly flights by Anadolujet on behalf of Turkish Airlines and Sun Express, followed by Skopje - Istanbul main airport with 14 weekly flights by Turkish Airlines and Skopje - Vienna with 14 weekly flights by Austrian Airlines, then Zurich with 12 weekly flights by Chair Airlines and Edelweiss air.
The airport was also connected 10 times a week with Zagreb and Belgrade by Croatia Airlines and Air Serbia, eight times per week with Istanbul Sabiha Gokchen by Pegasus Airlines, seven times per week with Warsaw by LOT Polish Airlines, four times per week Geneva by easyJet, three times per week with Izmir by Sun Express and Pegasus Airlines, twice a week with Basel by Enter air, twice a week with Bodrum by Anadolujet, twice a week with Athens by Aegean Airlines and once per week with Monastir in Tunis by Nouvleair.
If compared to 2019, the airport has lost its connections with Dubai and Doha only which were operated twice and four times per week with FlyDubai and Qatar Airways, However, since then the airport got connected with new destinations such as Geneva, Bologna, Turin, Bodrum, Izmir and Monastir.
