Skopje International Airport reaches 78% of the pre-pandemic levels in April!


Skopje International Airport handled 151 035 passengers in April this year and a total of 478 887 passengers during the January - April period 2022. If compared to the same month in 2021, there is an increase by 209% as 48 896 passengers were welcomed in April 2021. Only 1 853 passengers were handled in April 2020 as the airport was closed for commercial traffic due to the pandemic. There is still a decrease by 22,2% if compared to the pre-pandemic levels in April 2019 when 194 181 passengers were welcomed.


648 288 passengers were handled during the first four months of 2019, representing a decrease by 26,15% if compared to the passenger numbers for the same period of this year.


The number of the aircraft movements at Skopje Airport in April is 1 263, down by 19% if compared to April 2019 when the number was 1 570.


Skopje International Airport is expecting to see better recovery of the passenger numbers in June due to the runway reconstruction which began in late March and will finish on 28 May which caused the Airport to be closed for traffic every day between 9AM and 17PM.


Most of the flights are again operated by Wizz Air to Basel, Dortmund, Memmingen and London Luton. The busiest route in April was Istanbul with 21 weekly flights, 14 of which were operated by Turkish Airlines to Istanbul Airport and the other seven by the low cost carrier Pegasus Airlines to Istanbul Sabiha Gokchen Airport. Austrian Airlines also operated 14 weekly flights from Vienna, followed by Chair Airlines with seven weekly flights from Zurich, Air Serbia with five weekly flights from Belgrade, Croatia Airlines with four weekly flights from Zagreb, Edelweiss Air with three from Zurich and Gulliv Air and Aegean Airlines with two weekly from Sofia and Athens.
