Wizz Air has brought forward the start of the flights from Sofia base to Saint Petersburg, Russia. These flights were primary announced in late January 2020 and were expected to start in July last summer. However, the start of the route has been delayed several times since then. Their last plans were to start these flights on 28 March 2022. However, the route is now going to begin with operations on 15 December this year. The flights will operate twice a week instead of the primary planned three weekly rotations.
Wizz Air will operate on this route every Wednesday and Saturday until 26 March 2022. As of 28 March 2022 the flights will operate as previously planned, three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Airbus A320 aircraft with capacity of 180 seats is planned to operate on these flights.
However, these flights are still waiting to be approved from the Russian regulator as the website of Wizz Air says.
Among Sofia, Wizz Air will operate on two other routes to the Russian city this winter season, from London Luton and Budapest base. All other routes which were announced last year together with their new base in Saint Petersburg are expected to start in late March and December 2022.
