Wizz Air to close Sarajevo base!

Wizz Air has decided to close its base in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31st October. The airline previously suspended the flights to most destinations until late March 2023 and planned to operate on a few routes during the winter.

Sarajevo base was opened in May of last year with two Airbus A320 aircrafts deployed and 18 routes launched since then.

“It is with deep regret that we had to make the difficult but responsible decision to close our base in Sarajevo on November 1, 2022. Passengers with bookings affected by this decision will be contacted by email today with advice on all their options, which include: rebooking, a full refund or 120 percent of the original price in the form of airline credit,” - Wizz Air said.

The airline will continue to operate from Sarajevo to Basel, Cologne, Dortmund, Hamburg, Memmingen, Treviso and Eindhoven but the flights on all of those routes will end on 31st October. One round-trip flight to Billund and one to Copenhagen will be operated on 30th and 31st October each.

“We will continue to fly from Sarajevo to Abu Dhabi and London (Luton Airport). In addition, we will consolidate our presence at the base in Tuzla and strengthen our position there. We will add new flights from Tuzla International Airport to Eindhoven, as well as increase the frequencies on our routes from Tuzla to Basel Mulhouse, Freiburg, Dortmund and Memmingen” - the airline said.

Wizz Air will increase the flights from Tuzla base to Basel on four and five times a week, to Dortmund on four and later on five times a week, to Memmingen on five times a week and to Stockholm on four times a week this winter.

Also, the carrier will remain to operate on the route Sarajevo - London from London Luton base and Abu Dhabi - Sarajevo from Abu Dhabi base.
