Wizz Air is the largest operator at Skopje International Airport according to the results for the first nine months of 2022, while Istanbul is the most frequent route from Skopje.
With 58,2% of the market share on the first place is Wizz Air, with 12.0% is Turkish Airlines ( and Anadolu Jet ) on the second place, with 6,4% is Pegasus Airlines on the third place, with 6,3% is Austrian Airlines and with 5,0% is Chair Airlines on the fifth place.
It is the first time that Pegasus Airlines is one of the top five busiest carriers at Skopje Airport and it comes after the airline introduced second daily flights on the route on Fridays, increased the capacity on the route as A321neo jet with 239 seats was deployed and also launched Izmir - Skopje flights which were proven to be successful as third weekly flight on the route was added in August.
The most frequent route from Skopje International Airport with 13% market share during the January - September period is Istanbul with both airports ( Istanbul Main Airport and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport ) served by both Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines. Behind Istanbul is Vienna with 6,3% market share operated by Austrian Airlines, then Zurich with 6,2% market share operated by both Chair Airlines and Edelweiss Air, which offered more then 11 weekly rotations on the route. Basel is next with 6,2% of the market share, operated by Wizz Air. Then, Antalya with 5,4% of the market share operated by Anadolu Jet and Sun Express, Memmingen with 4,1% of the market share, Dortmund with 3,8% and Cologne with 3,1% all operated by Wizz Air.
Skopje International Airport is expecting to finish this year with just over 2 million passengers handled, still under the pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Next year, Lufthansa will launch 10 weekly flights to Skopje from Frankfurt and Norwegian will launch two weekly flights from Oslo to Skopje. Wizz Air will deploy its 6th jet at the city and will increase the flights on 10 routes.
